4 of 5 Its a value system Monday, December 08, 2008 TJ from Orlando
Bought this set on a $30 special. It has 5.1 capabilities (note: you have to turn on surround under your sound options to experience the proper output)
The set up is easy, cords are color coded (I suggest keeping them tied and using only the footage you need to keep it clean)
Overall: Get a good deal on it, I shopped around alot! I wouldn't spend more than $50 on this set, the sound quality is average, and as mentioned by others the only volume/power control is on the subwoofer (but volume can be controlled from most keyboards these days)
My 4 rating is highly influenced by the great price. My satisfaction is dependent on the value I received, not so much quality of product.

4 of 5 Good deal...for the money. Tuesday, May 20, 2008 A Customer from Howell, NJ
The incredible price (w/free shipping) and the good reviews made this a must after I brnke the control speaker on my old PC speaker system.
In a nutshell
Pros:
Price
Cons:
Could be louder. Volume and sound are OK...but you won't be keeping the neighbors up unless you have thin walls
Volume switch on subwoofer only. My old Altec Lansing 5.1 set had a volume and balance control on the the front right speaker, making adjustment easy. The subwoofer isn't on the desktop...
Can't figure out why the longest cord was on the front center speaker, with the shorter cords attached to the rear speakers. Am I supposed to put the subwoofer behind me? Anyway, easy to fix by just switching the speakers based on cord length rather than color code. And speaking of cord length...a few more feet on the PC to Subwoofer cord would have been appreciated.
In the end, none of the cons was bad enough to offset the incredible price of this speaker set....less than $15 more than the price of a set of 2 cheapie desktop speakers. Was this review helpful?
5 of 5 Can't beat the price Tuesday, April 15, 2008 Iggy from Highlands, NJ
Look, this might not be the best 5.1 system out there but it sure does deliver. The sound quality is clear and full with plenty of sub. I'm building a home theater on a shoestring budget and this was such a great value, I think I might be able to splurge a little more on the projector. Was this review helpful?
2 of 5 Bought when on "deal" Tuesday, April 08, 2008 Scott Moritz from Franklin, NC
I always use Logitech, but this time went with this brand based on other 'favorable' reviews. I can only conclude that these other reviewers have not used *good speakers before. These do not put out full rich sound by any means and also do not have any where near the bass performance of any of the Logitechs I have.
These are good *budget speakers - but at anywhere close to a comparable priced Logitech unit I would definitely go Logitech.
Would not buy again. Was this review helpful?
4 of 5 Not bad for 5 speaker w/ subwoofer PC sound Thursday, April 03, 2008 Rebecca Brace from Dunnellon, FL
Review for PC: When I first opened the box, all the separate speakers and adapters looked a bit difficult, but was very color-coded friendly and easy to set up. Don't bother reading the booklet for hints, it only says to set your PC up for the 5.1 surround hookup. That's it. Make sure your PC has more than the Green audio jack, because there are three to plug in for all the separate outputs. I had to uninstall and then reinstall the audio driver to get the subwoofer to bass, but that was all it took and it kicked right in. I tested on some heavy bass hip-hip, so was sure the tone sounded right on highs and lows. As far as sound quality, it is sufficient for a PC, but I wouldn't hook it up to a plasma, if that helps. I watch boxed TV episodes and listen to MP3s on this computer in my workout room, so the sound needed to be ample enough to overpower the treadmill and other electronic equipment. Pleased so far. This Genius model is true to its word. The sound is clear and sharp without the shake and crackle. I had a Logitech Z-640 with a clumsey center speaker with thick awful wires. There's no comparison to this Genuis SW-5.1 1000. Therefore, I adore Genius for its simple features. Was this review helpful?
